UK Removes Uruguay, Namibia & US Virgin Islands From Its Travel Corridor List

Authorities in the United Kingdom have removed from their travel corridor list Uruguay, Namibia, and the United States Virgin Islands, after evaluating the current pandemic situation in these territories, the UK’s government has announced.

The new decision obliges all citizens of countries mentioned above who wish to enter Britain to undergo a period of ten days of mandatory quarantine, VisaGuide.World reports.

According to the United Kingdom’s authorities’ statement, the decision took effect after estimating that there has been a continuous increase in the number of the Coronavirus new cases, per 100,000 of the population in Uruguay, Namibia as well as the US Virgin Islands, since late November.

“In Namibia, new cases per week have increased by 334 per cent over this period. In Uruguay, new cases per week have increased by 295 per cent over the same period. In the US Virgin Islands, new cases per week have increased by 108 per cent over the same time,” the statement published by Britain’s authorities has clarified.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office on its updated list of travel advice urged all its citizens not to travel to the countries mentioned above, due to the current pandemic situation.

Earlier this month the United Kingdom’s government decided to add Botswana and Saudi Arabia to the travel corridor list, after asserting that the number of COVID-19 infection cases in these territories marked a decrease.

The statement clarified that since December 12, all persons wishing to enter the UK would not be required to self-isolate upon their arrival.

The United Kingdom is the sixth most affected country worldwide from the Coronavirus pandemic, according to the statistics published by Worldometers.

Over 2,149,550 persons have been infected by the Coronavirus pandemic in Britain, as yet, and 69,051 persons have died.
